INTERNET ACCESS POLICY Legal Research Only. Library Staff reserves the right to define what is non-legal research and has the authority to revoke use. This policy is to be an operating policy subject to modificatioin and revisions by the staff and Board of Trustees. Sign in at terminatl for thirty (30) minutes use in any four (4) hour period during regular business hours. Users must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or have prior approval from library staff. Proof of age may be required. Self-serve: Library staff does not provide individual instruction, research assistance, or verify or interpret database information. The World Wide Web is made available through the Mozilla browser. E-mail is available for persons on library, court,or county government business. Deleting or modifying computer settings, removingor adding desktop folders, or downloading to the hard drive is setrictly forbidden. Printers are not available for internet data or E-mail. Informatioin may be downloaded to a diskette (availalbe for purchase, $1), faxed, or e-mailed. The Santa Cruz Law Library staff does not engage in the practice of law, does not provide legal advice, and does not perform legal research. Furthermore, the Law Library is not responsible for any inaccuracies of legal information found on the Web. Favorite Folders, or Law Library Bookmarks are listed as a convenience to patrons and do not imply accuracy or endorsement. The library staff strongly recommends that all legal information found on the Net be verified through alternate sources. AFTER-HOURS ACCESS POLICY I. Access to the County Law Library outside of normal business hours may be granted to judges who reside in California and to attorneys who are: A. Active members of the California State Bar
The following additional persons may qualify for after-hours access privileges by appying to the Board of Law Library Trustees: C. Inactive members of the California State Bar who reside in this county; D. Litigants appearing in propria persona who reside in this county, who require the use of materials not readily available elsewhere, and who are unable to use the law library during regular business hours; E. Law school students, paralegal program students, and law school graduates who reside in this county, who require materials not readily available elsewhere for a particular class or project, and who are unable to use the law library during regular business hours; F. Research assistants who reside in this county, who are employed by attorneys, public agencies or legal departments of businesses, who are unable to use the law library during regular business hours. II. Cardkeys may be purchased from the Law Librarian. Renewal notices for active State Bar members are mailed in December. (Refer to attached fee schedule.) A. Cardkeys issued to active members of the State Bar automatically expire on the second Monday in February. Cardkeys renewed after that date are subject to a reinstatement charge.
III. The person to whom a cardkey is issued is: A. Not permitted to admit B. Not permitted to lend the cardkey to anyone. Anyone in the Law Library after regular business hours is required to show the cardkey upon request.
IV. Violation of any of the conditions in Section III will be cause for immediate suspension of after-hours access privileges, pending a final decision by the Board of Law Library Trustees at its next regularly scheduled meeting. The Board of Law Library Trustees may impose other sanctions at its discretion. The Board may suspend cardkey privileges of users who flagrantly abuse library policies or who have past-due accounts.
V. Any person aggrieved or any person adversely affected by any of these policies or by any determination of the Law Librarian may appeal to the Board of Law Library Trustees.
