The primary funding source for all California county law libraries is a portion of civil filing fees paid by litigants in superior and municipal courts. In smaller counties, such as Santa Cruz, this amount of money is inadequate to support a well-developed legal reference library. We are becoming increasingly dependent upon other revenue. Currently twenty-five percent of our income comes from photocopies, after-hours access cards, Lexis/Nexis and Internet fees, fines, special fund raising events, and donations.

The Library Trustees, staff and patrons are extremely appreciative of the various individuals who have donated their time, money, books and furnishings to the library. Seleced gifts gracing the library included:

Mr. Abe Goldstone's beautiful antique walnut desk and office furnishings, donated by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Klein of Aptos.

Historical photos of the court house and members of the legal community from the Santa Cruz County Bar Association.

A stained glass "Scales of Justice" from Gregory Coben, Esq.

Much needed metal shelving (it matched our existing shelving!) from Robert Anderson, Esq. of Aptos.

The biographies of most of the judges and justices appearing on this web site were donated by James Publishing Company.

Funding for word processing equipment and printers provided by Scrabble Tournaments organized by Margaret Leonard, Clare Sheils and Gordon Salisbury.

Cash donations in 2004 from many generous judges, lawyers and library patrons.

Thousands of volunteer hours provided by wonderful UCSC and Monterey College of Law students, retired court staff, lawyers, and county residents. We are especially grateful to our volunteers of the year:

2001
Carol Pogue, Retired Judicial Secretary

2002
Colleen Brokaw, Nurse and Monterey College of Law Student

2003
Jessica Spencer, UCSC Student

2004
Ray Glock-Grueneich, Paralegal

A special thank you to our Webmaster, Richard "T.F." Quigley, for his artistic vision, his obsession with accuracy, and his foresight in securing our domain name early on.
